Long Island Black Educators Association (LIBEA)

About us

We do this so no educator builds a career alone.

The story, mission, board, and partners behind the Long Island Black Educators Association.
Mentorship and Learning Together
Our story

More than three decades of showing up

We were founded more than thirty years ago so Black educators on Long Island would not navigate the profession alone. Long Island is one of the most segregated regions in the country, and its schools reflect that. For decades we have mentored educators, connected them to jobs, funded scholarships, and recognized excellence. We are a small organization that gives away more than its size suggests. Our ask is simple: reach out, and help us grow the network.
Mission

What we promise

LIBEA promotes diversity and equity in the workplace and the classroom.
Vision

Where we are going

A Long Island where Black educators are represented, supported, and advancing at every level of the school system, and where no educator has to build a career alone.
